Londonderry’s Smokin’ Again this March

Over a week to go till the official Maple Producers Open House weekend in New Hampshire. The locals know the Londonderry NH Maple Sugar operation is always open and visitors are always welcome!

While not exciting in the summer months with the steam from evaporating 32 gallons of water for one gallon of syrup poring out the vents atop the sugar shack, the taste is the same pure, organic and sweet too!

“Smokin” right now through the weekend and just 45 minutes from Boston, Peterson’s Sugar house in Londonderry, New Hampshire would make a great outing for the family. The sap is flowing and the maple treat is ready for tasting your free samples right now!

We will admit the soft falling snow in this typical New England shot is not from this year. But it is just so Londonderry we had to share it with you again. While the forecast is for upper 20′s throughout the weekend at night and at or near 40 degrees during the afternoon, the kids will get a chance to see the sap drip, drip, dripping from the spouts in our local maple trees. When you come, you will find the ground firm in the morning, but a bit soft in the afternoon. Mud season is the best time for Maple production. It works out well for Hank too, no hay to get in, no cows to feed, just enjoy the day talking with parents and children interested in this sweet treat for breakfast or anytime.

Just a half hours drive from Eastern Massachusetts, it is worth the trip! If you live in Londonderry, why not be a tourist in your own hometown? The locals know next weekend will be packed with cars parked up and down Peabody Row, a quiet country road that is actually owned and maintained by the state of New Hampshire. The Google Map should help you find it if it is your first time.

Please ask Hank if you can buy a pint or more, this priceless viewshead can be saved by a few of us selecting his great local product.

Be sure to view the audio slideshow, “Sweet Season” Suzanne Laurent put together a few years back. The artistry in this is worth a trip to the Derry News website.
